Sen. John Cornyn reacted to President Donald Trump endorsing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in a GOP primary runoff, calling it a major blow to his reelection bid in Texas. Cornyn said he has worked closely with Trump and voted with him more than 99% of the time, adding that Trump has consistently called him a friend in the race. Cornyn urged Texas Republican voters to decide whether they want a strong nominee to help GOP candidates down ballot and defeat James Talarico in November, or a weak nominee that jeopardizes shared priorities. Cornyn also noted he would welcome a presidential campaign visit if he wins the primary. Cornyn and Paxton have publicly feuded for years, including online attacks and accusations, amid Paxton’s corruption and infidelity scandals.
