Tucker Carlson has alleged that the Murdoch family, after terminating his contract with Fox News in April 2023, encouraged him to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 as a means to oppose Donald Trump. In a conversation with Clayton Morris, Carlson expressed disbelief at the Murdochs’ animosity towards Trump, asserting that Lachlan Murdoch explicitly offered support for his candidacy. Carlson, however, acknowledged his fondness for Trump and a lack of desire to run for office, despite the backing that was claimed to have been offered to him.
The Murdochs really hate Trump. Like, there's no one who hates Trump more than the Murdochs, Carlson told his guest Clayton Morris on the latest episode of the former's show.
I got fired in April of 2023. In May of 2023, they asked me to run for president against Trump and said they would back me.
Absolutely, yeah, we'll back you, affirmed Carlson. And that came right from Lachlan? asked Morris, taking on the role of interviewer briefly.
We want to stop Trump, mused Morris, Yeah, well, he was running, observed Carlson.
