As Election Day approaches, Canadians have various methods to register to vote, particularly if they haven't changed their residence since the last election in 2021. Elections Canada spokesperson Matthew McKenna highlighted the ease of registration through their website, calling it the simplest option for most Canadians. For first-time voters or those who've moved, registration is required, and several channels are available, including online, by phone, or in-person at local Elections Canada offices. Voters can also register at polling stations on election day, provided they present the necessary identification.
"The easiest way is to go to our website," McKenna said, emphasizing that most Canadians are already registered to vote if they havenât moved since the last election.
"If they're not so tech-savvy or they don't want to do it online, they can call us 1-800-463-6868 and the folks will help them walk through the registration," McKenna explained.
"Thereâs at least one set up in every riding," McKenna noted, stating that voters can also register in-person at any of the roughly 500 Elections Canada offices.
Even if you forget to register before election day, you can do so at your polling station by proving your identity and address.
