CNN's Pamela Brown interviewed Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-Deremer about the implications of recent job growth and ongoing tariffs. While the April jobs report showed a positive increase of 177,000 jobs, concerns were raised about the sustainability of this growth amid tariffs, particularly those affecting China. Chavez-Deremer expressed confidence in the economy and the president's commitment to fair trade, asserting that their policies would continue to support job growth despite existing criticisms from unions regarding the impact of tariffs on import levels.
As you know, the jobs report is backward-looking. It's not forward-looking. And some economists say that this sort of stronger-than-expected jobs report is probably not going to stick if the current tariff policy stays what it is.
The president in his tariffs talks was very clear. Fair trade practices is what he promised the American people, and that's exactly what he's doing.
I don't think it's a surprise to anybody who listened to the president on the campaign trail that he's now delivering on those promises.
