Abdullah Haji Zada, an 18-year-old Afghan national, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy involving a plot to carry out a terrorist attack on Election Day in Oklahoma. Zada, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, conspired to receive firearms and ammunition intended for the attack. He faces a considerable prison sentence of up to 15 years, in addition to agreeing to be deported after serving his time. Co-defendant Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi is likewise implicated in this case, facing trial for supporting the Islamic State group.
Federal prosecutors announced that Abdullah Haji Zada, an 18-year-old Afghan national, pleaded guilty to conspiracy related to a plot for an Election Day attack.
Zada, arrested at 17, faces up to 15 years in prison and agreed to be removed from the U.S. post-release.
Zada and co-defendant Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi reportedly aimed to obtain firearms to target large gatherings during the Election Day last year.
Tawhedi, a former security guard for a U.S. military site in Afghanistan, is awaiting trial for providing support to the Islamic State group.
