Union boss McCluskey took private jet flights arranged by building firm, report finds
Briefly

Len McCluskey, former Unite boss, reportedly enjoyed private jet flights and football tickets organized by Flanagan Group, which built a hotel for the union. An internal report revealed Flanagan overcharged Unite by at least £30 million. McCluskey is said to have disregarded staff and legal advice while signing the construction contract. While his lawyers asserted he fully paid for his travels and ticket costs, there is no proof of reimbursement for the flights and tickets. The hotel project became financially detrimental, costing £125 million but valued at only £38 million.
Flanagan Group, which is run by friends of Mr McCluskey, overcharged Unite by at least 30m for the Birmingham hotel and conference centre project, the Unite report says.
Unite's report said the private jet flights and football tickets were "consistently organised and paid for by" the Flanagan Group and there is "no indication" Mr McCluskey later reimbursed them.
Unite's auditors found the union spent as much as 125m on the hotel and conference centre development, which has since been valued at just 38m.
"I was absolutely astounded," Ms Graham told the BBC. "I could feel the pit of my stomach drop when I saw the figures."
