Three charged over alleged 'intifada' chants in central London
"Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police Service as they carried out their investigation. We remind all concerned that proceedings against these defendant are active and that they have the right to a fair trial. It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
"The force said the trio were arrested at a protest outside the Ministry of Justice in Petty France, Westminster, on Wednesday December 17 after they were identified as allegedly being involved in chanting calling for an "intifada". The force said its investigation took into account the "intifada" chant but also other chanting heard during the protest and the charges reflect "the totality of the alleged offending on that evening"."
Three people were arrested and charged with one count each of stirring up racial hatred after a protest outside the Ministry of Justice in Westminster on December 17. The arrests followed identification of alleged chanting calling for an "intifada" and consideration of other chanting during the event. The Crown Prosecution Service concluded there is sufficient evidence and that pursuing criminal proceedings is in the public interest. The defendants will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on February 23. Authorities warned against reporting or online sharing that could prejudice the active proceedings. Police had announced a change in approach to related slogans earlier that day.
