Teachers' union will campaign against Labour MPs if pay offer in England is not improved

The National Education Union (NEU) has announced plans to campaign against Labour MPs if teacher pay offers fall short next year. NEU's general secretary, Daniel Kebede, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s proposed 2.8% pay rise, criticizing it as inadequate without proper school funding. He warned of potential industrial action if the recommendations from the School Teachers' Review Body do not exceed inflation or address issues in recruitment and retention. The NEU conference also labeled Reform UK as far-right, escalating tensions within political discourse.

Daniel Kebede, the NEU's general secretary, criticized the Labour leadership, stating, 'It is indefensible for a Labour government to cut school funding.'

Kebede emphasized the urgency for change, asserting, 'If the STRB recommendation is not above inflation... then we stand ready to act industrially.'
