Taoiseach confronted by Enoch Burke's mother Martina while canvassing in Galway
The Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, was canvassing in Galway-West ahead of a by-election when Martina Burke confronted him and shouted that he was a disgrace. A video shows Burke and others chasing him through a residential estate while repeatedly asking about transgenderism. Burke claims her son, Enoch, has been in prison for two years because he will not promote transgenderism. Enoch is serving a prison term for contempt of court after repeatedly defying High Court orders to stay away from Wilson's Hospital. Burke and her daughter Ammi were released from prison in April after two weeks in the Dóchas Centre for contempt of court. Martin did not respond to the repeated badgering and later asked for space and to be moved aside.
"Anything to say about transgenderism?," Ms Burke says repeatedly. Ms Burke claims her son, Enoch has been in prison for two years "because he won't promote transgenderism". Mr Burke is currently in prison for contempt of court after repeatedly defying High Court orders to stay away from the grounds of his former workplace, Wilson's Hospital."
"The three-minute video, posted on social media, sees Ms Burke and a number of others chasing after the Taoiseach as he walks around a residential estate in Galway. "You're looking for votes in Galway here. Have you anything to say?" he asks. At one point as the group walks through thge estate Martina and the other member of the Burke family, along with an unseen person recording the footage, are all asking questions of the Taoiseach at the same time about transgender matters."
"Throughout the clip Mr Martin does not respond to the badgering. However, he eventually says to one of those surrounding him "sorry, do you mind? Just a bit of space now". Further on, Mr Martin separately addresses Mr Burke while being berated by him saying: "sorry, do you mind out of my way, please? I don't mind what you say or what yo"
