Brooke Paterson, 19, suffered a broken leg while playing for Linlithgow Rose away at Cumbernauld United and underwent surgery at Forth Valley Hospital. Teammates and onlookers realised the seriousness of the injury and several phoned for an ambulance, but she and others waited about five hours for a response. The Scottish Ambulance Service apologised and attributed the delay to high demand and hospital turnaround times. First Minister John Swinney apologised, expressed "regret", and said the call appeared to have been misclassified and did not have "the priority it should have had", calling the error unacceptable and promising an investigation. Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said families were suffering due to waits for accident and emergency treatment.
