But the UK recently joined other European nations in defending Denmark's ownership of Greenland as the Trump administration's rhetoric on the issue escalated, and was among several countries to deploy troops to Greenland's capital Nuuk earlier this week as part of a so-called reconnaissance mission."
The US president pledged a levy of 10% on imports from several European countries from 1 February, rising to 25% on 1 June, and referenced taking control of Greenland. The proposed tariffs would target goods from the UK, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland. The Trump administration has intensified calls for US control of Greenland on national security grounds, alarming European allies and Greenland residents. The UK defended Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland, joined allied deployments to Nuuk, and stated that applying tariffs on NATO allies for collective security is completely wrong and will be pursued with the White House.
