"I'm delighted that we've seen a major surge in visitors from the USA. It's testament to the world-leading offer we have in London, from our hospitality, to our arts and culture, to our brilliant shops and restaurants. London remains the best city in the world to visit and explore. For a lot of Americans I speak with it's also London's values which increasingly make it so attractive."
"London had a terrible, terrible mayor, and it's been changed, it's been so changed. Now they want to go to Sharia law."
US visitor numbers to London rose eight percent in 2024 and by a fifth since 2022, reaching 5.56 million arrivals according to the International Passenger Survey. Spending by American visitors in London reached £4.62 billion in 2024, up from £3.7 billion two years earlier. In contrast, British travel to the United States declined to 2.2 million in 2024, down 100,000 from 2023 and well below the 3.13 million recorded in 2019. London's open, liberal and diverse culture is cited as a draw for American tourists. High-profile political tensions between the London mayor and the US President accompanied these tourism trends.
