Internal strife at Reform UK intensifies after new MP Sarah Pochin suggested in Parliament that the Prime Minister follow the European lead and ban the burqa for public safety. Party chair Zia Yusuf called the suggestion 'dumb' and clarified it was not party policy. NF, the party leader, while advocating for a debate on face coverings, supported the divergence within the party, highlighting tensions following the expulsion of MP Rupert Lowe. Lowe, who advocates for a burqa ban, symbolizes the factional disagreements within the party regarding immigration and cultural issues.
Had no idea about the question nor that it wasn't policy. Busy with other stuff. I do think it's dumb for a party to ask the PM if they would do something the party itself wouldn't do.
I don't think face coverings in public places make sense, and we deserve a debate about this.
The burqa is a political symbol it represents a deeply patriarchal and unpleasant worldview that has no place in our society.
It is the latest sign of disharmony in Reform, months after Rupert Lowe, one of the party's MPs, was booted out after a disagreement with Yusuf and Farage.
