"There was nothing to even amend, it was ridiculous, the people of Lancashire have already spoken. "We do not want fracking in Lancashire, why does Reform UK want to see the return of fracking?""
"This was purely a political motion put forward to try and scaremonger the people of Lancashire, what we did was to make it sensible. "In the Fylde coast it didn't work, but there is new technology coming all the time and Reform's position is let's do this scientifically, so if it's not safe, it'll not happen.""
""continuation of the moratorium, while commissioning a full independent review of domestic energy sources""
The Reform-led Lancashire County Council declined a Labour motion calling for a permanent ban on fracking and instead backed an amended proposal to refer to extracting shale gas. Fracking in Lancashire has been effectively moratoriumed since 2019 after earthquakes at the Preston New Road site in Fylde. Concerns about comments from Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice prompted the Labour motion. The council voted to continue the moratorium while commissioning a full independent review of domestic energy sources. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has announced government plans to pass a law to ban fracking permanently in England.
