"inappropriate and offensive comments have no place in our Senedd or society more widely"
"no chinky spies for me"
"has accepted that her post was 'completely inappropriate and unacceptable' and has apologised for it"
"if we weren't confident [the allegations] will all go away"
Laura Anne Jones, a Senedd member for South Wales East, faces a recommended two-week suspension after an investigation found she used a racial slur in a WhatsApp group in August 2023. The standards commissioner, Douglas Bain, investigated three allegations including a racist comment and failure to address discriminatory behaviour; Jones was cleared of false expenses and unfair dismissal complaints. The investigation recorded Jones writing "no chinky spies for me" amid a TikTok-related discussion and calling a former employee "a wanker" in WhatsApp exchanges. Jones accepted the post was "completely inappropriate and unacceptable" and apologised. She defected from the Conservatives to Reform in July.
