""the future of the country is on the line""
""more united under Kemi [Badenoch's] leadership than I've known it for many years""
""He was telling lies to everyone... I'm very disappointed in him.""
""absolutely sick" of "backbiting and backstabbing""
Robert Jenrick left the Conservative Party to join Reform UK and urged others to defect, saying the future of the country was at stake. Nigel Farage welcomed Jenrick and said he would keep accepting defections until the 7 May elections. Nick Timothy replaced Jenrick as shadow justice secretary and said the public were "absolutely sick" of "backbiting and backstabbing". Timothy praised Kemi Badenoch's decisive handling and said the party was "more united" under her leadership, while accusing Reform of not doing the "thoughtful" or "serious work" necessary for policy development. Some Conservatives expect isolated further defections but not an immediate large wave, and private anger has been voiced toward Jenrick.
