"Ipsa's initiative marks the first time public members will directly participate in shaping MPs' pay and expenses policy, bringing a new level of community engagement."
"The citizens' forum aims to gather diverse views from the public, ensuring that the process of determining MPs' salaries reflects a broader spectrum of society."
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) is inviting approximately 20 members of the public to join a review assessing MPs' pay and expenses. This citizens' forum will meet four times in September and contribute to recommendations for policy adjustments, coinciding with a broader online consultation running until autumn. The initiative aims to create a democratic process, combining local insight with statutory evaluations and comparisons to other countries' MP salaries. Participants, randomly selected from a postal lottery, will help ensure decisions are representative of the UK population.
