Plaid Cymru captured the Caerphilly Senedd seat as Lindsay Whittle won 47% of the vote with a 3,848 majority, producing a 27% swing from Labour. Nigel Farage's Reform pledged to contest the seat but its candidate Llyr Powell finished second. Labour had held the Westminster seat since the 1920s and the Senedd constituency since its creation. Whittle pledged to work like a Trojan for every man, woman and child and celebrated Wales as an emerging nation. Plaid leader Rhun ap Iorwerth said the party can now win across Wales while downplaying immediate independence plans. First Minister Eluned Morgan called the result bad but refused to resign.
