"not working for Scotland or Wales"
"unmitigated disaster for both our nations"
"strong, centre-left SNP and Plaid governments, we will also be sending a clear message that the hateful, extreme politics of Nigel Farage will never be allowed to win in our nations"
Rhun ap Iorwerth and John Swinney held talks to develop a progressive alliance between Plaid Cymru and the SNP. They presented the alliance as a positive alternative to Westminster's despair and decline and as a way to show the power of progressive politics. The meeting concentrated on tackling child poverty and on Plaid Cymru's pledge to pilot a Welsh version of the Scottish Child Payment if it forms the next government. Swinney criticised Westminster and the UK Labour government for failing Scotland and Wales and warned against Nigel Farage's politics. Plaid highlighted electoral momentum and pushed for funding and powers parity with Scotland. The Welsh Conservatives described the pact as regressive and economically risky.
