A British woman in the Netherlands named Annie cannot travel to see her 91-year-old dying mother because her British passport expired and is currently submitted for renewal. She had been using her Dutch passport for regular visits. New rules require Britons with dual nationality, other than Irish nationals, to present a British passport to enter the UK or pay £589 for a certificate of entitlement that can take up to eight weeks. The requirement prevents immediate travel while renewals process. Former cabinet minister David Davis urged an urgent grace period to allow dual nationals to travel on their second passport during processing.
