Not surprised at all': Fareham voters size up Suella Braverman's Reform switch
"I've sent emails saying we need support here' and never received a response. Not even an acknowledgment, Jewell said."
"I feel as if I've come home, she told the audience."
"She stands good and hard for local people. That's more important than what party she belongs to."
Suella Braverman, MP for Fareham and Waterlooville since 2015 and former home secretary, announced her defection to Reform UK. Braverman visited the Golden Lion pub in January offering to help remove a protected tree damaging the property and posted photos with staff, but the pub owner, Jamie Jewell, reports no follow-up despite emails requesting support. Jewell said he does not want Braverman in his pub. Local wine seller Roy Gillingham expressed continued support for Braverman, saying she stands for local people and that her party move makes no difference to his vote.
