Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, expressed his opposition to the reinstatement of the death penalty despite a significant rise in support, particularly among Millennials. According to a recent poll, 58% of Millennials favor capital punishment. Farage emphasized that such matters are personal conscience issues and will not become part of party policy. He cited concerns over past miscarriage cases, stating his inability to support the death penalty, while acknowledging the intriguing trend of younger generations increasingly favoring it as a potential future national debate topic.
These are issues of conscience, just as the assisted dying debate... Nothing on the death penalty will be part of party policy.
I have to say, personally, given there have been 500 quite serious miscarriages of justice... I don't think I could ever support it.
