Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, has declined to commit to maintaining the pensions triple lock if elected, despite announcing significant tax cut plans. Instead, he proposed reversing the two-child benefit cap and restoring the winter fuel allowance cuts made by the Labour government. Farage's comments aim to target left-wing voters disillusioned by Labour's austerity measures, positioning his party as a viable alternative while underlining that they will build their policy platform before the election. His approach reflects a strategy to offer financial relief to lower-income families in their childcare costs.
The triple lock for pensioners is not something we have addressed as yet. We will, between now and the next election. We are, as you can see, building out our policy platform.
We believe lifting the two-child cap is the best thing to do, not because we support a benefits culture but because we believe for lower-paid workers this actually makes having children just a little bit easier for them.
