Nicola Sturgeon to step down from Holyrood
Briefly

Nicola Sturgeon has announced her decision to step down as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) and will not seek re-election in May 2024. Former SNP leader and Scotland's first female first minister, Sturgeon has served eight years in the role, but her tenure has faced challenges, including a police investigation related to party finances. Following her resignation in March 2023, Sturgeon expressed pride in her service and the policies she championed, such as the Scottish Child Payment. Despite leaving frontline politics, she remains committed to Scotland's independence.
