Newly released minutes reveal Euston's HS2 funding was expected earlier this year
"The partnership leading the HS2 redevelopment site around Euston station had expected funding to be agreed earlier this year, newly released minutes from last year have revealed. The Euston Partnership Board was established in July 2020 to enable closer collaboration and joint working between all partners involved in the Euston programme. They publish redacted copies of their meetings, but sporadically. Last week, a large batch was released, covering the period from November 2024 to March 2025."
"At the November meeting, the funding for the tunnel from Old Oak Common to Euston station was confirmed, and the redacted speaker said that a decision about the station would be expected to be taken in the Spring 2025 spending review. The Spending Review in June didn't include anything for Euston station, leaving the current status in limbo while awaiting a decision about how the station will be paid for."
"In other issues raised in the minutes, a debate about how to create a unified travel service for passengers, but whether that would be a single concourse for both National Rail and HS2 services, or two connected concourses, was still to be worked out. Work on a "minimum viable product" for the London Underground station rebuild was also ongoing. Meetings earlier this year raised concerns about wayfinding for the local area around Euston station while the building site is in limbo,"
The Euston Partnership expected funding decisions earlier in the year after publishing minutes covering November 2024 to March 2025. Tunnel funding from Old Oak Common to Euston was confirmed, but funding for the station was not included in the June Spending Review, leaving payment arrangements unresolved. The partnership is seeking cost savings and aligning work with the Department for Transport's submissions while debating whether a single concourse or two connected concourses should serve National Rail and HS2. Work continues on a minimum viable product for the Underground rebuild, concerns about wayfinding persist, and a unified outline plan was due for agreement by late summer.
