MSP defends friendship with sex offender after Labour suspension
""new information""
""deeply disappointed""
""serious error of personal judgement""
Pam Duncan-Glancy defended her friendship with Sean Morton, a former Moray councillor twice convicted of possessing indecent images of children. Scottish Labour suspended her and removed the party whip while investigating new information. Leader Anas Sarwar said he had sacked her from the party front bench and dropped her as an election candidate after not receiving appropriate answers about Morton. Duncan-Glancy said she did not condone Morton's crimes, described him as a vulnerable friend she likened to family, and said she was deeply disappointed by the suspension. She admitted a serious error of personal judgement and said she would not seek re-election. Morton was jailed in January 2025 and given two 16-month sentences backdated to May 2024.
