Mother sues London borough over state of 'rat-infested' council home
Briefly

A north London resident has initiated legal proceedings against Brent Council concerning her uninhabitable council home. A pest control report confirmed severe infestations and health hazards. Living conditions have caused the family, including a disabled son, significant distress and health issues, including worsening asthma and mental health deterioration. Despite multiple reports and inspections by council surveyors, no effective action has been taken. The resident has lived in the property since 1992 and is desperate for relocation due to persistent damp, mould, and pest issues that have not been addressed by the council.
My family is struggling to breathe in the house, we have rat bites all over our body [and] I have no good drinking water as the kitchen sink is busted.
Ms Eniola claims the council has sent a number of surveyors round to the property but the reports are never followed up on.
Since first raising the issues more than three years ago, Ms Eniola has been ignored by the local authority.
[The] council house is killing my family, I don't want to suffer in silence anymore.
