On June 25, over 1,000 transgender individuals and supporters gathered at Westminster to advocate for trans rights during a mass lobby organized by the Trans+ Solidarity Alliance. They expressed concerns over proposed changes by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) regarding single-sex spaces, following a UK Supreme Court ruling that the definition of 'sex' under the 2010 Equality Act referred only to biological characteristics. The EHRC's initial two-week consultation faced backlash, leading to an extension to six weeks.
The mass lobby, staged on Wednesday (25 June), was organised by the Trans+ Solidarity Alliance as part of its Unite for Trans Rights campaign.
Hundreds of them spoke to their MP about the rights of the trans community and shared their concerns about the Equality and Human Rights Commission's (EHRC) proposed changes.
