The number of treatments waiting is the lowest since February 2023, when it stood at 7.22 million, after a record high of 7.77 million treatments and 6.50 million patients in September 2023. For too long, patients were promised change in the NHS but saw little of it. Before Christmas the government asked 63 councils whether they wanted to postpone May local elections because of reorganisation; 23 have asked for a delay and 34 will hold elections.
