Members of public to be selected for honest conversation' about MPs' pay
Briefly

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) is initiating a citizens' forum to engage the public in discussions about MPs' salaries and funding. Set to begin in early 2025, this initiative will randomly select approximately 25 members from a pool of 10,000 candidates invited to share their views on compensation. Scheduled discussions will address public perceptions of MPs' pay, which a 2021 survey indicated many believe is too high. Ipsa aims to dispel myths surrounding MPs' funding and foster a more equitable representation in parliament.
Richard Lloyd, the Ipsa chair, emphasized the importance of fair compensation for MPs, stating, "We want to support a diverse and representative parliament, where being an MP is not reserved for those wealthy enough to fund it themselves."
Ipsa is launching a citizens' forum with randomly selected participants to discuss MPs' pay and funding, highlighting the need for an open dialogue about democracy and financial transparency.
