Mayor loses no confidence vote in airport row
"The vote "formally recorded the council has no confidence in the Mayor of Doncaster""
""it does not remove the mayor from office""
""Let me make this very simple for you, I'm not going anywhere.""
"A Labour Party spokesperson said: "This is nothing more than political posturing from a group that is not serious about the future of Doncaster's airport.""
Doncaster Council members voted 38 to 14 to record no confidence in Mayor Ros Jones after a motion by Reform UK leader Guy Aston. The motion accused Jones of misleading the public about reopening Doncaster Sheffield Airport, asserting a pledge for spring 2026 when full operations are now expected by summer 2028. The written motion acknowledged the vote is symbolic and does not remove the mayor from office or alter statutory powers under the Local Government Act 2000. Reform UK holds 36 council seats, Labour 12 and the Conservatives six. Jones confirmed she will remain in office and defended her pledge to reopen the airport.
