"What remains of the Blue Wall is crumbling away. People across Surrey and beyond have voted for true community champions who will put them first. The Liberal Democrats are winning against the Conservatives, but also Labour, Reform and the Greens."
"My focus is on delivering the best quality services that we can for our residents. Yes, it's disappointing, but at the end of the day I'll carry on doing the best job I can."
The Liberal Democrats won all six local council by-elections across Surrey, gaining Guildford South East, Camberley West and Caterham Valley on Surrey County Council and three borough and district wards. Catherine Houston took Guildford South East from Residents 4 Guildford and Villages, and Alan Ashbery gained Camberley West from the Conservatives. Laura Barker gained Staines Ward at Spelthorne from the Green Party. The Liberal Democrats also retained Caterham Valley, Meadvale and St John's, and Whyteleafe. Reform UK finished second in four contests. Conservatives had previously lost their majority at Surrey County Council after August by-elections, and the council leader emphasised continued focus on service delivery.
