Labour voters most likely to be 'disappointed or angry' if they had a gay child
"Labour voters are more likely than any other party to be "disappointed or angry" to have a gay child, new polling data suggests. A survey of 2,037 UK adults found that 33 per cent of Labour voters would disapprove of their son coming out as gay. Interestingly, respondents were a single percentage less likely to disapprove of a gay daughter but were 10 per cent more likely to object to a trans child."
"Labour's voting cohort are the most likely out of other political party supporters to disapprove of their child coming out as gay or refusing to have a child, according to the poll. They were, however, less likely than Reform UK voters to disapprove of a trans child, coming in at third with 43 per cent compared to 46 per cent of Tories and Reform's 49 per cent. Green Party supporters were consistently the least likely to react negatively to each hypothetical, with 12 per cent saying they would disapprove of having a gay son or daughter. Seven per cent said they disapproved of having no grandchildren, while 22 per cent objected to their child coming out as trans."
"Overall, men were more likely to react negatively to each hypothetical scenario than women, with 44 per cent of men saying they would be upset if their child came out as trans compared to 33 per cent of women. The LGBTQ+ community has become increasingly critical of Labour since it came to power after quashing the Tories' 14-year stretch in government following the 2024 General Election."
A survey of 2,037 UK adults reported that 33 per cent of Labour voters would disapprove of their son coming out as gay. Respondents were one percentage point less likely to disapprove of a gay daughter and ten percentage points more likely to object to a trans child. Labour supporters were the most likely among party backers to disapprove of a child coming out as gay or refusing to have children, but ranked third on disapproval of trans children at 43 per cent. Green Party supporters showed the lowest negative reactions. Men registered higher negative responses than women, especially regarding trans children, and separate YouGov polling found 91 per cent of trans, non-binary, and intersex adults do not trust Labour on trans rights, with 15 per cent calling the party "trustworthy."
