The deputy leadership role should combine campaign leadership with storytelling to counter divisions promoted by Reform and make the case for a diverse Britain. Traditional conservatism has been replaced by a populist, hard-right outlook that risks dividing the country. Progressives need to reassert Labour's unique role in bringing people from different backgrounds together around common interests. The deputy leader should mobilise the Labour movement to challenge the spread of division and hate. Candidates need 80 MP nominations to reach the final ballot.
