Labour minister sorry over grooming gangs remark
Briefly

Lucy Powell, the Leader of the House of Commons, faced backlash over comments perceived as trivializing grooming gangs during a BBC Radio 4 debate. She referred to the topic as being akin to a 'dog whistle' issue. After criticism, Powell clarified that she views child exploitation with utmost seriousness and was criticizing political opportunism, not the issue itself. Meanwhile, Reform UK's Tim Montgomerie discussed the need for improving diversity efforts, implying that current focus diverts civil service resources from other important areas.
I was challenging the political point scoring around it, not the issue itself. As a constituency MP I've dealt with horrendous cases.
It's not so much the amount of money that is spent on employing diversity officers. You talk to a lot of civil servants, the amount of time they now have to spend monitoring this issue above all others is an extraordinary diversion.
