A cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover forced the shutdown of computer systems and paused production lines on 1 September. Factory production will not resume until at least 24 September as a forensic investigation continues and a controlled restart of global operations is considered. The disruption is estimated to cost the company at least £50m per week across UK and overseas plants. A criminal investigation has begun. Concern has arisen over knock-on effects for suppliers, with calls for Covid-style emergency support or a government backstop insurance system to prevent mass layoffs.
