And right on cue, the SNP leader and First Minister John Swinney published another Scottish government paper this week promising a "fresh start" for Scotland should it become an independent country."
"When John Swinney took over as first minister following the resignations in quick succession of Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf he inherited a party in turmoil. He has proved to be a steadying force. He quickly calmed controversies over gender identity, the environment and the police investigation into SNP finances which has led to the prosecution of the party's former chief executive Peter Murrell."
The Scottish National Party continues to prioritize independence but lacks a viable route to statehood. John Swinney published a government paper promising a fresh start for an independent Scotland. Independence progress depends on the SNP retaining power at Holyrood. Political context shifted since Labour's Westminster victory: Swinney stabilised the party, Labour's popularity has fallen, and the rise of Reform UK may broaden the SNP's path to a fifth term. Swinney calmed controversies over gender identity, the environment, and an investigation into SNP finances that led to the prosecution of former chief executive Peter Murrell. The government then shifted focus to improving public services.
