The UK government is supporting the launch of a second AI growth zone in North East England through a taskforce established by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The taskforce will combine tech firms, local universities and skills providers to create jobs, resolve planning issues and develop training and apprenticeship routes. The initiative targets sites in Blyth and Cobalt Park, with construction expected to begin within weeks. The taskforce will work to unblock planning, secure investment and ensure energy access. The long-term objective is to secure local economic benefits and career pathways from construction to advanced AI roles.
