Former Tory MP charged with possession of class A drugs
"We have decided to charge Crispin Blunt, 65, with four drugs offences - one count of possessing a controlled drug of Class A and three counts of possessing a controlled drug of Class B. The charges follow police attendance at Mr Blunt's home address in Horley on October 25 2023, which was in relation to a separate matter."
"Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. We have worked closely with Surrey Police as they have carried out their investigation."
"Mr Blunt was the Conservative MP for Reigate from 1997 until he was arrested in October 2023. He had the Tory whip removed and continued to sit as an independent MP and did not stand for re-election in 2024."
Crispin Blunt, a 65-year-old former Conservative MP who represented Reigate for over 25 years, faces charges for possessing one class A drug and three class B drugs. The charges stem from police searches conducted at his Horley home on October 25, 2023, during an investigation into a separate matter. The class A drug is alleged to be methamphetamine, while class B substances include GBL, cannabis, and amphetamine. Blunt served as parliamentary under-secretary in the Ministry of Justice from 2010 to 2012. He had the Conservative whip removed following his arrest in October 2023 and sat as an independent MP before not standing for re-election in 2024. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 25.
