Dame Annette Brooke served as the Liberal Democrat MP for Mid-Dorset and North Poole from 2001 to 2015 and became the longest-serving female Liberal Democrat MP. She was voted MP of the Year in 2010. She taught economics in Aylesbury and Bournemouth and tutored for the Open University for 20 years. She campaigned for microfinance to help people in developing countries. In Parliament she spoke on Home Affairs under Charles Kennedy and developed party policy on children, schools and families. Her lobbying secured the simultaneous Braille release of the final Harry Potter book. She spent 17 years as a Poole councillor and remained active in Dorset politics, hosted a Ukrainian refugee family, and supported dementia charities.
Dame Annette Brooke had a strong interest in developing countries and campaigned for microfinance to help the world's poorest people become self-sufficient. Dame Annette served the constituency of Mid-Dorset and North Poole in Parliament from 2001 to 2015 and was voted MP of the year in 2010.
