"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"It is an absolute honour to have been appointed as the next Clerk of the Parliaments. I feel privileged to have been trusted to take forward this historic and important role that dates back over 700 years. I'd like to pay tribute to Simon Burton for his years of public service and for everything he has achieved during his term of office. I am excited to build on his values-based approach."
Chloe Kilcoyne Mawson has been appointed the 66th Clerk of the Parliaments and will assume the role in April 2026, succeeding Simon Burton upon his retirement. She is the first woman to hold the post, a position established in the 13th century and held for over 700 years. Ms Mawson expressed honor and privilege at the appointment, pledged to build on her predecessor's values-based approach, and committed to working with administration and bicameral teams to support the House and its members in their constitutional duties. The Independent emphasizes its on-the-ground reporting across major issues and requests reader donations to fund journalists and maintain free access.
