Farage to speak to council leader over press ban
""I don't know. I'm going to see him [Barton] at the [Reform UK] conference this Friday and have a chat with him," Farage said."
""He obviously thinks they're bad actors, but I think I've got a good history of being a peacemaker in these situations.""
""We haven't got a problem, I've not got a problem, I'm being professional and I hope the Notts Post become professional. The ban still stands until they come and apologise. They need to pick the phone up and speak to me.""
Mick Barton, a Reform UK councillor on Nottinghamshire County Council, banned the Nottingham Post and its online arm Nottinghamshire Live from speaking to him and other councillors after a disagreement over a story about local government reorganisation. Barton later said the ban applied only to him personally and insisted he remained professional, demanding an apology before lifting the ban. The prohibition included BBC-funded journalists based at the title. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who was in Washington and had addressed Congress on free speech, said he will speak with Barton at a party conference and offered to act as peacemaker. Farage did not say whether the council ban would be lifted.
