Steadman appeared at Southwark Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing, was not asked to enter a plea and only confirmed his name, and will next appear in February. William Wragg resigned the Conservative whip after admitting giving politicians' phone numbers to a suspected scammer met on a dating app. The Metropolitan Police investigated WhatsApp messages with alleged unsolicited indecent images, and prosecutors say there is sufficient evidence and public interest to pursue charges.
