ETAs are also better for travellers. Digitising the immigration system ensures the millions of people we welcome to the UK every year enjoy a more seamless travel experience.""

From Wednesday 25 February, travellers from 85 visa-exempt countries must have an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. The requirement means most visitors will need an ETA, an e-visa, or a British passport. Applicants must provide the passport they will travel with, an email address, a payment method (credit/debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay) and facial photos. ETAs cost £16 through the official channel and are usually approved within minutes, though applicants should allow three working days for additional review. ETAs remain valid for two years or until passport expiry.
