"a critical move"
"The ability to manage, cleanse and interpret data accurately is no longer a back-office function - it's central to operational efficiency and public trust,"
"Training in AI and data science enables staff to automate manual processes, detect patterns, and generate actionable insights at speed and scale."
The Department for Education spent more than £170,000 over three years on staff training in data, AI, cybersecurity, cloud, and digital technologies. Investment rose from basic data analysis and visualisation courses to specialist AI, data science, cybersecurity, and Microsoft Power Platform training. In 2022/23 over 1,450 staff completed courses in statistics, business analysis, digital design, and data visualisation with an expenditure of £44,500. By 2024/25 more than 350 staff had progressed to advanced training. Seventy percent of government departments are piloting or planning AI tools, increasing the need for structured, secure, and high-quality data and skills.
