Ian Cooper stepped down as leader of Staffordshire County Council after his membership of Reform UK was revoked following an investigation into his social media activity. Cooper had led the council after Reform UK won control from the Conservatives in May. Complaints centered on a post stating "no foreign national or first generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament" and alleged links to an X account with racist posts and a Facebook affinity for a white supremacist page. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said the investigation did "not look good." Martin Murray will serve as interim leader while a permanent leader is expected to be chosen in the new year.
