Corbyn and Sultana clash over new party membership
"My sole motivation has been to safeguard the grassroots involvement that is essential to building this party. Unfortunately, I have been subjected to what can only be described as a sexist boys' club: I have been treated appallingly and excluded completely. They have refused to allow any other women with voting rights on the Working Group, blocking the gender-balanced committee that both Jeremy and I signed up to."
"Corbyn later dismissed it as "unauthorised" - telling supporters he was seeking legal advice."
Zarah Sultana accused Jeremy Corbyn of overseeing a 'sexist boys' club' and excluding women from the working group founding a new left-wing party. Sultana said she was sidelined despite an agreement that she and Corbyn would jointly authorise key steps. A membership email offering £55 memberships was sent to supporters, which Corbyn later dismissed as "unauthorised" and said he was seeking legal advice. Sultana launched a membership website she described as following the agreed road map and encouraged sign-ups at £55. Sultana claimed more than 20,000 people signed up, potentially raising over £1 million in one morning. Corbyn and other founding members issued a statement that omitted Sultana's name and urged supporters to ignore the unauthorised message.
