Christopher Brain, a former priest, is accused of leading an evangelical cult and engaging in sexual activity with congregants in the Church of England. He faces allegations of one count of rape and 36 counts of indecent assault involving women in his church movement from 1981 to 1995. Brain claims any sexual liaisons were consensual, stating that he and his wife had an open relationship. He described his experiences as part of a radical journey and mentioned having sensual contact with congregants to relieve tension.
He claimed he and his former wife were in a pretty much open relationship and considering splitting up, adding: I wasn't a traditional vicar, I was someone on a journey of radical research and experimentation.
Circuiting around his home were women who sometimes referred to as the Lycra Lovelies or the Lycra Nuns, who were on a rota to help maintain the home of then-Reverend Brain.
