BBC response to Bob Vylan's IDF chants at Glastonbury not good enough', says minister
Briefly

During Bob Vylan's Glastonbury performance, controversial chants, including calls for violence against the IDF, prompted backlash against the BBC for not stopping the broadcast sooner. Equalities Minister Jacqui Smith expressed surprise the BBC continued airing it, stating that their warnings were inadequate. Smith emphasized that the broadcast crossed a line and suggested that the BBC had a responsibility to halt the performance given its nature. The BBC had previously chosen to not air another controversial band's performance, raising questions about their decisions around Bob Vylan's set.
I'm surprised that the BBC carried on broadcasting them live when it was obvious what was happening.
I think it made a mistake here. It's not good enough simply to say on screen that, you know, this is dodgy language.
These were clearly comments that overstepped the mark.
Sometimes we have to get our message across with violence because that's the only language some people speak.
