Alton Towers boss chosen as council's next CEO
"Within the organisation of Merlin, his main role was transformation and making sure that the customer experience was high on his list. I see the customers as the residents of Derbyshire,"
"If it's not a first, it's highly unusual ... we need to start thinking differently and this is definitely an opportunity to think differently. "We have a very good structure that he will fit into. His job will be to direct the council in a particular way and I think that this will be different to all the other candidates that we had,"
"I'm particularly looking forward to meeting and working with great colleagues across the council and doing my best for the residents of Derbyshire."
Neil Crittenden, currently interim vice-president at Alton Towers, has been chosen as chief executive of Derbyshire County Council. He has worked for Merlin, the park's parent company, for more than sixteen years and focused on transformation and customer experience. The appointment follows the departure of Emma Alexander and the interim tenure and recent resignation of Simon Stevens. The full council must confirm the appointment, but Reform UK holds a comfortable majority and approval is expected. The council received 43 applications and interviewed nine candidates. The appointment aims to bring private-sector experience into local government and address organisational challenges.
